The history student from St. Stephens College shifted gears when he decided to pursue fashion design from the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Delhi. In 1986, Rohit Bal and his brother Rajiv Bal set up an export company Orchid Oversea Pvt. Ltd. In 1990, Rohit Bal launched an eponymous designer label with his first independent collection that got him noticed in the high fashion corridors. From then to date, he has ruled the fashion industry and spread his designer abilities and business capabilities to other ventures in India and overseas.

When asked about his achievements Rohit Bal proudly says, “These collaborations are not limited to me being a public face of the brand. It involves utilising my ideas to create a certain look for the product.” Rohit Bal has also won several awards, such as Lakme Grand Finale Designer (2012), Indian Fashion Awards Designer of the year (2006), International Fashion Awards Designer of the Year (2004, 2001), and Kingfisher Designer of the Year (2001) among several others. His collections have featured in prestigious magazines like Vogue, Harper Bazaar, ELLE, Verve, and Marie Claire.
